When the ANC wanted our votes earlier this year, its campaigners reminded us that 20 years was not enough time to right all the wrongs of apartheid. I especially remember Lindiwe Sisulu waxing lyrical about how she and her colleagues pulled the country from the jaws of destruction. 20 years is not enough time, the ANC party kept reminding us.
Lindiwe Sisulu turns around the other week and says that nobody under 40 was affected by apartheid and that they shouldn’t expect free houses.
Which one is it? The only way nobody under 40 was affected by apartheid is if 20 years was enough time and everything necessary to fix its effects for those born in the past 20 years was done. This contradicts the protest that 20 years is not long enough.
They can’t have it both ways.
